Brigantio of Cirmo Confronts Cartaginian Captain Magon

Brandishing a Celtiberian Staff of Authority, the old Brigantio confronts the Carthaginian captain Magon, who intimidates him with his sword:

«Brigantio turned to Magon and gave him a long look for the first time since the events of that murky night had begun. He looked at his sumptuous bronze greaves, the purple tunic and cloak, the muscled breastplate, the rich gold and silver ornaments, until he stopped at the face shadowed by the tall, horsehair-crested helmet. He felt an aura of cruelty around the Punic that made him shiver, and he wanted to end his presence as soon as possible. "We listen to you, Carthaginian" –he said in Iberian, and his voice sounded strange and hollow, as if another person was speaking through his mouth».

(For the historical novel The Heir of Tartessos, Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri).
